Southeast Togo is home to many small farmers making a subsistence living, sometimes barely enduring until the next rainy season. The Rural Agriculture progect works with rural communities to teach valuable methods for farming, resource management, and family living. NHMI is working with the rural communities to help set up development committees locally to improve the livelihood of their communities and help them become models for implementing agricultural activities. These New agrarian techniques, such as compost-making, crops, and farming, will improve the socio-economic condition, increase production, change consumption habits, lower debt, and better health.
